CO-OPERATION WITH LOCAL SCHOOLS & COLLEGES

Earlier this year, we received a telephone call from a Year 10 student at West Hill School, Stalybridge. This local College for Boys achieved Science Specialism in
2004. Newland have offered their students work experience placements in the past and the boys have always shown exceptional behaviour and commitment.
Therefore, when Jake called us direct – showing initiative – we were happy to agree to him coming to spend one week with us during July.
Jake worked in our manufacturing facility, spending time in the fitting, fabrication/welding and electrical departments. He definitely had a natural talent for engineering and his welding was second to none!
It’s a pity he has to do a final year at school as we would have been only too pleased to offer him an apprenticeship.
After completing his week’s work experience, Jake was heading off to Uganda with West Hill where we understand he will be helping to build a local school.
The Newland apprenticeship programme has recruited from local schools & colleges since 1962.
